Chase Freedom Q1 2019 5% Categories
The Chase Freedom® will earn you 5% or 5X at Gas Stations, Tolls, and Drugstores on up to $1,500 in spend from January 1 through March 31, 2019. Make sure to activate your 5% cash back as soon as possible. After you activate it, you can earn your rewards right away.
- During the 1st quarter (January – March 2019), you can earn 5% cashback rewards in the following categories: Gas Stations, Tolls, and Drugstores on up to $1,500 in combined purchases when you activate. Be sure to log into your account to activate the cashback category offer or check out our link for more information on the qualifying places within the categories! Activate each quarter to earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in this quarter’s bonus categories. You will still earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases.
- Gas Stations category sell automotive gasoline that can be paid for either at the pump or inside the station, and may or may not sell other goods or services at their location. Please note that some merchants that do not specialize in selling automotive gasoline are not included in this category, for example, truck stops, boat marinas, oil and propane distributors, and home heating companies.
- Tolls category collect fees associated with toll roads, highways, and bridges. Note that purchases made during the quarter to replenish your electronic toll collection account will qualify.
- Drugstores category specialize in selling prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines, supplements and various health-related items. These merchants may also sell cosmetics, toiletries, greeting cards, and various household items such as cleaning supplies and packaged foods and drinks. Please note that some merchants that sell a wide variety of goods.
- Includes purchases made using your Freedom card with your Chase Pay mobile wallet during checkout. Eligible purchases only qualify for a total of 5% Cash Back rewards. Purchases made using Chase Pay at other current 5% quarterly categories will be awarded a total of 5% Cash Back rewards on up to $1,500 in combined purchases.
How to Activate Your Bonus
Each quarter, you must activate your bonus categories. You will be able to activate the next quarter’s bonus categories about 2 weeks before the start of that quarter. Starting December 15th, you will be able to activate your Q1 bonus for this year. Activating your bonus only takes a few clicks.
- Log on to your online Chase account and select your Chase Freedom® card from the selections at the left-hand side of your screen.
- If your bonus needs to be activated, you will see “Not Activated” at the right-hand side of the Chase Freedom® dashboard. Click on the blue “Activate” button to continue.
- View your Chase Freedom® dashboard by selecting the Freedom card at the left of the screen. Then, you can activate your bonus by clicking the blue “Activate” button at the right of your screen.
- You will see a detailed description of the bonus categories you’re activating. Click on the green “Activate Now” button to complete the activation.

- Each quarter has a deadline for activating your bonus. As long as you activate by the deadline, any qualifying purchases from the entire quarter will earn the bonus points.
