Iberia Card Earn Up to 100,000 Bonus Avios
Earn 100,000 Avios after you spend $5,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening.
Building up to 100,000 Avios will be equivalent to about $1,500 (more on that below). This is a large amount when you compare it to other highly rated credit card bonus offers. However, you do have to spend quite the sum of money to receive the full value of their bonus offer.
|• Plastiq: Plastiq allows you to pay for expenses that you generally won’t be able to with your card like rent, tuition, auto lease, mortgage payment, and more. There’s a 2.5% processing fee for using your credit card. However, this’ll be worth the card bonus you’ll get. There’s also a referral program where you can earn “Fee-Free Dollars” to use towards processing fees. See our Plastiq review.|
|• Fund Checking accounts with your card: Many banks will allow you to fund the opening deposit with a credit card. Consider opening Checking accounts that also offer a sign-up bonus. This way, you can work towards bonuses from two different sources. Big banks like Chase, HSBC, Huntington, and TD Bank have great offers and allow credit card funding. You can generally fund anywhere from $50 to $1,000 towards the opening deposit with a credit card, depending on the bank.|
|• Buy gift cards: Consider buying gift cards with your credit card that you can then spend later at your leisure. Individual merchant cards (restaurants, gas stations, supermarkets, etc.) generally don’t have purchase fees, so this is a plus. On the other hand, American Express and Visa gift cards will have purchase fees. Amazon gift cards are a great idea as you can shop for almost anything there with no purchase fees either. Unfortunately, Citi credit cards tend to code gift card purchases as Cash Advances and there’ll be a fee. Call in to customer service and lower your Cash Advance limit to $0 before purchasing gift cards. You can also buy discounted gift cards as well from Raise or find gift cards on eBay.|
|• Everyday spending & bills: Always using your credit card for everyday spending, such as for dining, gas, groceries, etc. You can also use your credit card to pay for things like insurance bills, property taxes and income taxes. However, you’ll have to consider the convenience fees.|
What are Iberia Avios Worth?
Compared to other airline branded credit cards, depending on how you decide to use your Avios will reflect their value. Typically, every Avios will be worth about $0.015. With that in mind, having 100,000 bonus Avios will be equal to $1,500.
You will be able to redeem your Avios towards:
- Hotel stays
- Car rentals
- Seat reservations & upgrades
To get the best value for your Avios, you should redeem them towards flights. Redeeming towards other options will decrease your Avios values.
Like other Avios earning credit cards, you should be careful when you redeem for transatlantic flights. Their surcharges are well known for how ridiculous it is. The offer terns even have an example provided:
“At time of this publication all reward flights and travel together tickets are subject to taxes, fees and carrier charges of approximately $682 – $1,250 per adult in economy or $1,250 in business class based on travel from Seattle to London.”
You should redeem your bonus Avios toward domestic flights with Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, and Oneworld Alliance member airlines (more on that below).
Keep in mind, that your Avios will expire if you fail to collect, spend, share, or purchase anything for about 36 months.
Iberia Card Top Features
Iberia is in the Oneworld Airline Alliance. This way you will be able to use your Avios to reserve flights with their member airlines such as:
Oneworld Alliance Airlines
|American Airlines||British Airways||Cathay Pacific|
|SriLankan Airlines||Fiji Airways (oneworld connect)||Royal Air Maroc (future member)|
Iberia is also partnered with Aer Lingus (not a Oneworld alliance member). This way you are able to gain and redeem your Avios with Aer Lingus flights.
Gain a $1,000 discount voucher every year for 2 tickets on the same Iberia flight. You have to charge your card with a minimum of $30,000 in one calendar year to be able to qualify for the discount voucher.
Being a card member will be able to get you 10% off Iberia flights booked from Iberia.com/Chase10. Then the discount will apply for airfare only and doesn’t have any taxes or fees included.
Buy things overseas without having to stress over any foreign transaction fees with the Chase Iberia Visa Signature credit card.
Using the Iberia Visa Signature Credit Card is a great travel card to have. It’s definitely worth having this card even for the bonus itself. They even have excellent ongoing rewards for Iberia, British Airways, and Aer Lingus expenses.
However, if you want a rewards card that’s more malleable with their rewards system, then you should look into a general travel rewards card.
