The Park Hyatt, is designed by Tony Chi, which showcases minimalist, East-meets-West modernism. Additionally, the natural woods, somber hues, and contemporary lines offer a strong residential vibe that’s more Pacific Northwest and a little bit of Scandinavia.
When you walk in, you’re greeted with a sleek and sparse lobby and glass panels depicting the city’s signature cherry blossoms. Behind the wood and marble reception area hung on red burlap straps is the abstract take on the American Flag. Plus, sitting areas on either side of the fused modern and Americana, which incorporate wood, glass, metal, and brick. The decor for the hotel is very well polished, functional, and relaxing.
Rooms
All 220 rooms and suites at the Park Hyatt is a modern, urban retreat that features American folk art, relaxing hues, hardcover American heritage books, and quality blinds. The Deluxe Room which is 336-square-feet comes with a nice neutral palette, accented with pops of blue and yellow. A small wooden apple, and duck decoy adds a homey touch to the minimalist area. Additionally, the basalt bathroom comes with a rainfall shower and custom Le Labo bath amenities.
Facilities
The 24-hour fitness center comes with state of the art equipment, headphones, bottled water, and cold towels. Not to mention, the skylight covers the heated, indoor saline pool which is surrounded by a deck with lounge chairs and a jacuzzi tub. There are more than 12,000 square feet of meeting space, and a 24-hour business center with computers, printers, and a fax machine. The Park Hyatt also comes with a one-room spa area, and in-room treatments are available.
WiFi is free to guests as well as digital copies of The New York Times, shoesine services, car services (upon availability), and bicycle rentals.
Food & Drink
The Park Hyatt’s crown jewel is their Michelin-starred Blue Duck Tavern, where President Obama and the First Lady once dined for their anniversary. They serve fresh, seasonal American cuisine with a strong focus on local ingredients. The restaurant’s star dishes include stuffed bone marrow, 45-day dry-aged rib-eye, oven roasted pork chop, and hot apple pie. Since this eatery is so popular with the locals, a small amount of seats are held every night for hotel guests, on a first-come first-served basis.
Blue Duck Tavern comes with a separate lounge area, known as Blue Duck Lounge. It offers artisanal cheese, light fare, fine wine, and handcrafted cocktails from scratch. Additionally, there’s also the Tea Cellar with an impressive selection of 30 rare, single-estate teas from remote regions around the world.
Service
The service at Park Hyatt is spotty. While employees at the entrance and front desk are fast to greet and help you out, the restaurant staff are attentive and accommodating. However, the service everywhere else can use some work. When housekeeping cleans your room, they didn’t refill the Nespresso capsules. Plus, when you go to reception at night, there’s no one there to get the umbrella you borrow. While these don’t make or break your stay, it did show a lack of attention on their part. It does not reflect properly on the Park Hyatt brand.
Location
It’s found in the trendy West End neighborhood and is only a few blocks away from the city’s top dining and drinking options. Not to mention, it’s a short walk to Georgetown, Embassy Row, Dupont Circle and K Street’s business district. Additionally, the main attractions are along the National Mall which is a little further to get to. You can take the metrorail to get there from Park Hyatt.
