*November Update: Plastiq has started allowing AMEX cards to be processed again.*
It seems that Plastiq’s Bill Payment Services is currently unable to process AMEX card. At this time, only Mastercard, VISA and Discover cards are working. Plastiq has given us our validation by confirming that they are having a difficult time processing AMEX cards and with that terminology alone, this seems to only be a temporary issue, however, with AMEX burning the bridges with Plastiq, we’ll just have to wait for more confirmation to come. If you’ve pre-scheduled an AMEX payment we’d greatly appreciate y’all letting us know about your experience.
With Plastiq’s recent streaks of restrictions/renditions; Plastiq no longer coding as Lodging/Travel via VISA, VISA no longer able to do mortgage payments, Plastiq coding VISA Payments as cash advance, it comes to question how Plastiq will preserve their business model.
Plastiq Amex Payment Processing Update:
- AMEX payments via Plastiq are restricted to Government, Utilities, Education, Residential Rent and Club Fees and Memberships
Key Features:
- Discover – 2.5% service fee for payments using a Discover card (standard rate)

Final Analysis:
Plastiq is starting to allow payments via AMEX cards from what was a temporary issue for several weeks. There’s still plenty of restrictions with using AMEX as a payment method via Plastiq: You can’t pay your morgage with a AMEX card. AMEX payments are restricted to Government, Utilities, Education, Residential Rent and Club Fees and Memberships.
