Chase just recently dropped a new free-credit score monitoring service coined the Credit Journey. This simulator will offer you free Vantage Score 3.0 scores powered by TransUnion and other credit tools.
This site will be available and free to everybody, meaning non-chase cardholders as well. Be sure to take advantage of resourceful tools such as weekly updates, score simulator, and email alerts that notify you of critical changes to your credit report, helping you identify potential fraud.
Alternative Credit Monitoring Sites
- Credit Karma Free Credit Score (TransUnion/Equifax)
- Creditscorecard.com from Discover
- Credit Sesame Free Credit Score (TransUnion)
Credit Journey In-depth
Now, I had higher expectations on the Credit Journey when I first heard about it with my hopes on Chase offering a free FICO Score only to find out that the service provides VantageScores powered by TransUnion. Not only does lenders rarely use VantageScores, but Chase surely isn’t the lender to even use V3.
On top of that, you rarely ever get pulled TransUnion by Chase (location may help you get a TU pull, of course). Keep in mind that Credit Karma does also offer their members VantageScore V3 on top of the ability to check equifax, etc.
In no way is this section discouraging any BCS readers from signing up; It’s just recommended that you always check your FICO score prior to applying for an important loan or credit card considering that VantageScore does differ completely from a FICO in ranking with a completely different scoring category.
Lastly, the additive feature that enables pin-point accuracy for total new accounts opened within a 2-years timeframe alone can be helpful for those looking to keep tabs on their status regarding Chase’s 5/24 Rule.
Theorized Benefits May Apply:
- Being Targeted for more Chase Products
Key Features
- Get your VantageScore® 3.0 credit score powered by TransUnion®.
It’s free. - Your score refreshes weekly when you log in. Check as often as you’d like – it won’t impact your score.
- Find out how your score may be affected when you pay off debt, open new accounts and more.
- Get email alerts about critical changes to your credit report, helping you identify potential fraud.
Conclusion
Credit Journey is the new credit monitoring service provided from Chase. You will now be able to access neat useful features such as free credit score from VantageScore V3.0 via TransUnion , weeky updates, score simulator to find out how your score may be affected when you pay off debt or make a new account, and email alerts when critical changes are red flagged on your account.
Keep in mind that Vantage Score varies significantly from a FIC score and could leave you in a different scoring category. Most lenders do not use VantageScore and Chase surely does not look at VantageScores upon approval.
However, this does not denote the use of this service as Credit Journey could be beneficial for those keeping track of their 5/24 status. Moreover, this could possibly be a breakthrough service used to target users for more Chase Credit Cards!
