Style
One Dalton gave off a residential vibe with a keen focus on art. Along the lobby’s curved hallway were three colorful displays of books wrapped in African textiles, setting the backdrop for clusters of elegant seating in muted gray tones. The mosaic behind the mahogany check-in desk depicted The Great Molasses Flood, which ravaged the city’s North End in 1919. And as we explored the property, we found pieces from local artists throughout the hotel.
Rooms
All 215 rooms and suites at the Four Seasons are designed by Bill Rooney Studio, capturing the classic, contemporary New England style with a neutral palette of grays and browns. They feature floor-to-ceiling windows, custom beds, mahogany furniture with polished nickel accents, and a touchpad to control lighting, blinds and the “do not disturb” sign.
Our spacious Premier King Room had beautiful corner views of Back Bay, a Nespresso coffee maker, and a massive, 65-inch flat-screen TV with Comcast X1 Video Experience. The marble bathroom was just as decadent, with a freestanding MTI tub, a separate rain shower stocked with deluxe Roja bath amenities, and a TV built into the lighted vanity mirror.
Facilities
When it came to facilities, One Dalton went above and beyond. The five-room spa carried deluxe brands like 111Skin and allowed us to pick the background music for our treatment. The bathroom by the 64-foot-long, heated, indoor lap pool (with underwater speakers) was furnished with a Suitmate Swimsuit Water Extractor and Oribe hair products. And the state-of-the-art fitness center was open 24 hours a day.
Our room rate included complimentary standard WiFi, twice-daily housekeeping, overnight shoeshine and daily digital newspapers.
Food & Drink
A contemporary, izakaya-inspired restaurant, Zuma offered dishes like grilled rock shrimp, raw yellowtail, miso-marinated cod, avocado and asparagus salad, and garlic-marinated shiitake mushrooms. The atmosphere here was energetic and vibrant, fueled by the lively bar which featured 75 rare sakes.
Breakfast was served at One + One, featuring upscale American food with a New England twist. Dishes included creamy kale and apple smoothie, hemp seed granola with acai, and our favorite, lemon ricotta pancakes.
Service
As expected from a Four Seasons, service was exemplary. Staff is polite, and addresses you by name, and went the extra mile to make sure you have a comfortable stay. We especially appreciated the servers at Zuma, who makes you feel like VIPs, an impressive feat for such a busy space.
