The Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard has two introductory offers: a one-time deal of 50% discount off companion fare for a card approval, and 60,000 bonus HawaiianMiles when you have spent at least $2,000 in the first 90 days of opening your account. We value these points to be worth around $720.
If you visit Hawaii often, then the Hawaiian Airlines card would give you lots of value. Their airline benefits would include: companion fare discounts, first checked bag free, and triple miles on Hawaiian Airlines spendings. You would be able to gain double miles for daily purchases and receive a free flight very quickly.
On the other hand, if you do not visit Hawaii very often, then you would want to consider looking at better valued non-branded traveling rewards cards.

60,000 Bonus Miles & Companion Fare Discount Offer
Make use of the Hawaiian Airlines card’s limited-time bonus offer of 60,000 HawaiianMiles and companion fare discount offer. The evaluation for the miles value by itself would be worth about $720 (more on that below).
It would be a pretty decent bonus offer if you think about many different card options with the same annual fees included. If you take too much time to think it over, this highly valued bonus of 50,000 HawaiianMiles is offered for a limited time only.
Your traveling partner’s round-trip between Hawaii and North America would receive 50% off if you use the companion fare discount offer for Hawaiian Airlines.
You must charge a minimum of $2,000 to your travel card in the first 90 days of having your account open to be able to qualify.
Here are some ideas on meeting the spending requirement:
|• Plastiq: Plastiq allows you to pay for expenses that you generally won’t be able to with your card like rent, tuition, auto lease, mortgage payment, and more. There’s a 2.5% processing fee for using your credit card. However, this’ll be worth the card bonus you’ll get. There’s also a referral program where you can earn “Fee-Free Dollars” to use towards processing fees. See our Plastiq review.|
|• Fund Checking accounts with your card: Many banks will allow you to fund the opening deposit with a credit card. Consider opening Checking accounts that also offer a sign-up bonus. This way, you can work towards bonuses from two different sources. Big banks like Chase, HSBC, Huntington, and TD Bank have great offers and allow credit card funding. You can generally fund anywhere from $50 to $1,000 towards the opening deposit with a credit card, depending on the bank.|
|• Buy gift cards: Consider buying gift cards with your credit card that you can then spend later at your leisure. Individual merchant cards (restaurants, gas stations, supermarkets, etc.) generally don’t have purchase fees, so this is a plus. On the other hand, American Express and Visa gift cards will have purchase fees. Amazon gift cards are a great idea as you can shop for almost anything there with no purchase fees either. Unfortunately, Citi credit cards tend to code gift card purchases as Cash Advances and there’ll be a fee. Call in to customer service and lower your Cash Advance limit to $0 before purchasing gift cards. You can also buy discounted gift cards as well from Raise or find gift cards on eBay.|
|• Everyday spending & bills: Always using your credit card for everyday spending, such as for dining, gas, groceries, etc. You can also use your credit card to pay for things like insurance bills, property taxes and income taxes. However, you’ll have to consider the convenience fees.|
What are HawaiianMiles Worth?
Compared to lots of other different options of airline-branded credit cards, depending on how you decide to use your miles, their value will reflect your decisions. Typically, each HawaiianMile is worth $0.012. It is a good value if you compare it to other varities of rewards cards that would offer you an average of about $0.01 per point.
Your HawaiianMiles can be used for:
- Flights & seat upgrades with Hawaiian Airlines
- Flights with partner airlines
- Hotel stays & gift certificates
- Car rental gift certificates
- Grocery, shopping & dining gift certificates
- Magazine & newspaper subscriptions
If you use your HawaiianMiles for flights with Hawaiian Airlines or one of their partner airlines, you would receive the best value for your miles. However, it’s not very easy to redeem your rewards, but it would definitely be worth the effort.
Try not to use your HawaiianMiles on other varieties of redemption options. It would decrease your rewards value to under $0.01 per mile.
HawaiianMiles Partner Airlines
Hawaiian Airlines does not really go into any major airline alliance (Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance), however it does have a few partners which are:
|China Airlines||Japan Airlines|
|Virgin Atlantic||Virgin Australia|
Hawaiian Airlines Card Top Features
You would gain a companion discount at the end of each account anniversary including the 50% companion discount that new card members receive.
The benefit of having an annual coupon for $100 would cover the annual fee that the card has. It is best used for a coach companion ticket for a round-trip vacation between Hawaii and North America.
The first bag you check in is free for any Hawaiian Airlines flight. But this perk can only be used for the first cardholder. There are other airline cards that would give you fee waivers for your traveling buddies too.
You can send and get miles from your friends and family without worrying about being charged any extra fees. Your transferable miles do not have any limits placed on them at all, but you are only allowed to have 10 transfers a year.
Buy things overseas without stressing over foreign transaction fees. Even though this benefit is typical in most cards now, it is still remembering.
If you fly to Hawaii from North America frequently, then this Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard is a great option to consider. Rewards and other benefits will be given to you for investing in Hawaiian Airlines.
However, if you do not visit Hawaii that often, then you should consider searching for a different general travel rewards credit card elsewhere. It would be easier for you to use your rewards and purchases.
