Style
You can feel the grandeur and exclusiveness of The Inn before you even get there. When you get inside, you can make your way through the narrow road through acres of idyllic farmland, lush organic gardens, and a tranquil pond surrounded by white Adirondack chairs. This expensive property with only a few guest accommodations is like a regal Texas ranch, complete with horses playing in the fields.
Casitas & Haciendas
The Inn at Dos Brisas offered a total of four duplex casitas and five haciendas. The 750-square-foot casitas were the property’s original accommodations, smaller in size and furnished with king beds, kitchenettes, private patios and gas fireplaces. The 1,795-square-foot haciendas were added later and featured stone fireplaces, overstuffed leather furniture, separate living rooms, private heated plunge pools and butler service.
The hacienda felt like a private ranch house, with high cathedral ceilings, a massive, screened-in porch, rustic-chic furniture, French Oak floors and a very Instagrammable bed-swing. The four-foot high, wrought-iron bed was comfortable, thanks to the organic bamboo Frette linens and Decker pillows. After an exciting day out and about, the outdoor shower was absolutely divine, as was the massive Jacuzzi in the bathroom.
Facilities
There were two ways to enjoy The Inn. For relaxation, wander through the flower garden, gaze at stars with a telescope, indulge in healing massages and attend a cooking class, organic gardening seminar and wine tasting. For some adventure, go clay-target shooting, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking and played tennis.
If you want, the concierge could arrange for duck, deer, quail and hog hunting trips. Get access to the resort’s infinity pool and your very own cream-colored golf cart to explore every inch of the resort. WiFi was free throughout the property, but you won’t spend a second of your time here doing work.
Food & Drink
The award-winning Inn at Dos Brisas Restaurant specialized in farm-to-fork cuisine long before it became a hit trend. The herbs and vegetables plucked from The Inn’s USDA-certified organic farm were specifically grown for the restaurant’s Texan-with-a-French-flair dishes.
Dinner came in the form of a seasonal, five-course meal where you will be treated to a cape gooseberry gazpacho, southern-fried Texas quail with a garden “potato salad,” wood-grilled, pasture-raised wagyu beef with Bordelaise sauce and the Texas peach panna cotta. The sommelier helps you select the ideal accompaniment for our dinner from The Inn’s 7,000-bottle collection.
Signature garden cocktails were also on offer, again drawing from the fresh ingredients conveniently harvested from The Inn’s farm. For example, the signature Bloody Mary was created with juice from over 60 different varieties of home-grown tomatoes.
Service
Service at The Inn is exactly what you expect from such a small and luxurious resort: attentive yet discreet and beyond immaculate. Check-in is smooth and easy before a driver and car whisks you away to your hacienda. Complimentary cheese, charcuterie and a bottle of champagne are waiting for you upon your arrival. At the end of your dinner experience, the server offers a list of breakfast choices, so they could deliver your morning meal at your choice time. Once back to your room, the fire pit was going and s’more-making supplies beckons you. And at checkout, not only does your bill come in handwritten calligraphy on heavy paper, but also three types of pens to sign with.
Location
Located about an hour outside of Houston and on the way to Austin, there’s not much to do but enjoy all that the secluded retreat has to offer. However, there are private golf courses nearby, so avid golfers might want to bring their clubs along.
Address: 10000 Champion Drive, Washington.
