Earn 10X Points On IHG Purchases
Because the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card earns 10 points per dollar on IHG hotel purchases, you should use the card when staying at participating IHG hotels around the world.
Cardholders also earn two points for every dollar spent at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants.
Your points don’t expire as long as the card is active every 12 months.
Redeem your IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card points for reward nights, merchandise, gift cards, airfare, digital rewards, charity.
When you redeem your points, you don’t have to worry about blackout dates. As long as there’s a hotel room available to reserve, you can pay with your points.
Perks That Justify The Annual Fee
With an annual fee of $89 that isn’t waived the first year, the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card may make some wary. But, with the many benefits that this card has, the annual fee is well worth paying for if you can take advantage of the perks.
Enjoy your 4th night free on award stays. When you book an award stay of 4 or more nights, you’ll get the 4th award night free! You don’t need to pay upfront for the 4th night. Therefore, any award stay lasting 4 days will only cost you the points for 3 nights.
IHG award stays start at just 10,000 IHG points per night. This means, for as little as 30,000 points, you can stay for 4 nights at some IHG hotels. It also opens up the possibility of stretching the welcome bonus to up to 10 nights of award stays if you know how.
Then, each year when you renew your card, you will earn a free anniversary night certificate. You can redeem it at any IHG hotel that costs 40,000 IHG Points or less. It expires 12 months after it’s issued.
For most people, this benefit alone is worth the annual fee. In fact, most hotel stays are worth more than the $89 annual fee. Don’t let the 40,000 IHG point limit bother you, because there are plenty of great IHG hotels that are within this limit.
Just for keeping this card open you’ll earn automatic Platinum Elite Status at IHG. There is no minimum spending to achieve this perk. Platinum Elite Status benefits include:
- Complimentary room upgrades (subject to availability)
- Guaranteed room availability (given 72 hours notice)
- Extended check-out (when available)
- Priority check-in
- Complimentary internet
- Welcome amenity
- IHG points never expire
- 50% bonus earnings on top of base points
- 2 free Amazon Kindle ebooks per quarter
- and more!
Earn a free Global Entry ($100) or TSA PreCheck ($85) statement credit once every 4 years. Enjoy the benefits of these security programs at no additional cost for you. This perk is generally seen on premium travel cards with annual fees of $400+.
Since the application fee for Global Entry is $100, which is more than the annual fee on this card, we highly recommend applying for it. There’s no obligation to keep this card for a full 4 years to get it again. So, this benefit can really help for those looking to cover a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee with a credit card.
The Chase IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card has plenty to offer for frequent travelers worldwide. The $89 annual fee is well worth it for those who tend to stay at IHG hotels. In fact, the free night certificate earned every cardholder anniversary is almost always worth more than the annual fee that this card charges, making this one benefit alone worth having this card.
In addition to the free night stay, you can enjoy Platinum Elite status just for keeping the card open each year. This means your points never expire, 50% bonus points earnings, complimentary room upgrades, extended check-out, and more.
The welcome offer is a pleasant one after a low minimum spending requirement. Plus, the Global Entry or TSA PreCheck statement credits further add value to the IHG Premier Card.
