How to Perform the Shopping Cart Trick
- Go online to the store's website for the card you want.
- Register for their website or loyalty program. You will want to provide your personal information. Providing your address is a must because it allows them to send promotions to your address.
- Add a couple of items to your shopping cart.
- Continue the check-out process until you reach the final page. If you have not received an offer, then you will have try again or try another website. Again, you do not have to purchase anything. The process of going to the final checkout page increases your chance of an offer to pop up.
- Accept the offer and complete the application.
Note: Be sure to enter the same information that is on your credit report when you're applying for the credit card. If they cannot verify your identity, then you will not be eligible for the card.
Benefits of the Shopping Cart Trick
- Bonuses - Different credit cards have different bonuses - some may be cash back while others may be related to the partnered store. Be sure to read the full details of the benefits!
- Helps Build Your Credit Score - If your credit score is bad, this trick will allow you to rebuild your credit. Because these cards aren't a hard pull against your credit, they will not be able to see any bankruptcies or items that negatively affect your credit. If a borrower can show that he or she can pay off money even with bad credit, then the lender will be more inclined to loan money to them.
- Able to Request a Higher Credit Limit - These types of credit cards typically have a lower credit limit around the $500 mark. After receiving your card, you can request for a higher limit for your spending needs.
Conclusion
If you are looking to increase your credit score or get more deals from stores, then the Shopping Cart Trick is the one trick for you. It's a fairly simple process to perform and a great way to earn some extra cash in your pocket. Just remember to follow the key qualifications in order for you to receive those great credit card offers.

Overstock works when asked for your full social enter all 0’s then put your last four of your social. It wasn’t a hard pull either.
I cant seem to get sportsman card to work? Any idea what i should do?
Gamestop dont pop up either.
I wanted to get my credit built back up after a divorce and repo. I read up on this trick and thought I’d give it a try. I tried Fingerhut; no pop-up, Overstock; Denied, VS; no pop-up. So I gave up. Few months later I went through Credit Karma and checked what cards I could get with my low scores surprisingly I got approved for a Capital One Platinum card (with an online pre-approval). About a 3 weeks later I got a pre-approval in the mail for Abercrombie and got approved. About 2 weeks ago I decided to check with the shopping cart trick and still no pop-up offers (tried all the tricks; cleared history, different browsers, incognito all to no avail . Then I read on Monday on myfico.com that I may need to opt-in for the prescreened offers because I may have opted-out at some time. I did that and today was shopping on VS and got the pop-up and got approved. My score is only up 10 points so far because I’ve only used my Capital One card so far but I’ll use the VS card much more than the one from Abercrombie.
Has anyone had any success with BonTons or Herberger’s, I cannot get a pop-up no matter how many times I try 🙁
Bontons is hard to get. I even tried Carson’s which one of their sister store, and no go. I’ll wait another 6 months and try again.
Worked for me today for Wayfair $2000 and Overstock $1500. I figured out the trick with Overstock. If you have an existing account and the offer has already been presented. You probably won’t get it again. That was my experience. I had to create a new account using my other email address. Then it worked with no issue using Google Chrome Incognito mode.
Some Synchrony cards are available via the SCT. I obtained my Old Navy card this way by accident in 03/2017. I was shopping online at Old Navy, went to check out and pay and received a pre-approved pop up just like I have with Comenity Cards. It didn’t show me my limit until after I accepted. I don’t remember if I had to put my full SSN, but I don’t have a HP from it.
Do you mean 2017 or May 2016?
Has anyone had any success with Herbergers? I also tried BonTon and Younkers, when I try to register I get this message in red:
“Important Message: please make corrections to one or more of your entries below to continue”
Then I recheck and everything (name, email, password) is correct, then I get this message in red:
“We’re sorry, there is problem creating an account with the information you entered. Please verify and try again.”
I can’t figure out why it won’t let me register or create an account.
Also I didn’t get any pop-ups when I checked out as a guest, but that’s my only option since I can’t create an account.
Note: I completed the Opt-In form just in case that was the problem.

Are you actually the “Shopping Cart Trick” creator? The info here is informative. Thank you for your comment.
How soon can a person receive a CLI with Coldwater Creek MasterCard or store card? Thank you.
Search the forums at myfico. They have a forum topic all about approvals and CLI’s. I’ve found it most useful. Posters are advised to state their scores, and provide details about the timelines and what they had to do if they recon or request CLIs or if they recvd auto increase.
Thank you for the info.
Boscov’s looked pretty god, so I tried…I did get the prescreen offer after checking the payment method box, submitted my last 4 of SSN and birthdate, submitted the application and then got a system error message advising to contact their credit dept. Unfortunately I didn’t get an agent that knew how to handle a prescreen offer and she ended up disconnecting the call. At least this does work in part.
Same thing happened to me last week and yesterday I got a letter saying I need to call them my application was incomplete
I realize this is an old thread but figured I would include my experience anyway. Got the same deal with both Wayfair and Boscov where I didn’t appear to be approved after filling out the preapproval popup. I got the verification letter about a week later asking me to call. After a lengthy hold (25 mins) O got a very friendly rep who asked a few verification questions and I was immediately approved for $750 Wayfair and $250 Boscov. So was definitely worth the call.
I started out with a secure capital one and discover, back in Aug 2016 in Oct i apply for Walmart$500, Home Depot$500,i didnt know about the SCT until Dec 2017 the first card i try was Evine $1000, Boscov’s $750,Victoria Secret$500, Express$500, Overstock$500, Ny&company$500, Buckle $250, J.Crew $250, Blair$250, Simplybe$250, LD William$250, i charge most my card halfway pay a few off twice, i try not to go above halfway my limit beside VS i cant help i MAX that out and pay it down. I trick is it work just need to have patient i know some if them is low but i take what i can get because i starting over. Today March 2017 i have AMEX$500, First Permier$500, Merrick bank$500. the trick is pay your bills each month even the Minimum and your credit score will go up mine i started out at 545 now 676. I keep trying for the ones i want really want like the children place and Wayfair etc. i notice this list is missing a few.
You will not get a pop up window for children’s place but if you enter 5 zeros then your last 4 of you ss # it will go through. I had to do that with gamestop and it worked for them both.
I entered all zeros except the last 4 and still got a hard pull
mine was a soft pull, and after reading some other comments i belv it falls off after very fast.
i tried all 0s for my husband he got childrens place 250 for me of course its says decision in 2 weeks 🙁
try contacting trusthacker543, that’s his g mail account.. Just send him an email and let him know what you want to get done.. He will put you through it all. I can vouch for him.
Warm regards.
Becca.
