How to Perform the Shopping Cart Trick
- Go online to the store's website for the card you want.
- Register for their website or loyalty program. You will want to provide your personal information. Providing your address is a must because it allows them to send promotions to your address.
- Add a couple of items to your shopping cart.
- Continue the check-out process until you reach the final page. If you have not received an offer, then you will have try again or try another website. Again, you do not have to purchase anything. The process of going to the final checkout page increases your chance of an offer to pop up.
- Accept the offer and complete the application.
Note: Be sure to enter the same information that is on your credit report when you're applying for the credit card. If they cannot verify your identity, then you will not be eligible for the card.
Benefits of the Shopping Cart Trick
- Bonuses - Different credit cards have different bonuses - some may be cash back while others may be related to the partnered store. Be sure to read the full details of the benefits!
- Helps Build Your Credit Score - If your credit score is bad, this trick will allow you to rebuild your credit. Because these cards aren't a hard pull against your credit, they will not be able to see any bankruptcies or items that negatively affect your credit. If a borrower can show that he or she can pay off money even with bad credit, then the lender will be more inclined to loan money to them.
- Able to Request a Higher Credit Limit - These types of credit cards typically have a lower credit limit around the $500 mark. After receiving your card, you can request for a higher limit for your spending needs.
Conclusion
If you are looking to increase your credit score or get more deals from stores, then the Shopping Cart Trick is the one trick for you. It's a fairly simple process to perform and a great way to earn some extra cash in your pocket. Just remember to follow the key qualifications in order for you to receive those great credit card offers.

I been working on my credit and disputing a couple of things. . score went up to 601-590. I applied for capitol one got approve with 300 limit. . Month later tried Walmart store card got approve with a 250 limit. Very hard pull score dropped ten points. Last night tried the trick of VS and got approves for a 350 limit.. I will keep trying with the trick. Don’t need any more hard inquities.
I tried using this trick yesterday for the first time, and got it to work for Ann Taylor, J.Crew, Limited and Boscovs. I tried VS and Buckle which I would really like to get approved for but no luck. how long should I wait to try again for VS and Buckle? I used incognito mode for everything. Thanks everyone!
What are some of you talking about when you use 0’s for your social security (when the cart trick doesn’t work)?
I think they are talking about just simply applying for the card when the trick isn’t working & when you get to the ss# part of the application, instead of entering your full ss#, some people have been putting all zero’s except the last 4, hoping that it is going result in a ‘soft pull’ but unfortunately- that isn’t the case, it still ends up resulting in a hard pull being done.. So if you don’t want to risk the hard pull then I wouldn’t recommend doing this….
Yea, I figured that out much too late. Sigh…got another hard pull.
Thank you for your reply-once again-Bret 🙂
Actually if you wait patiently you will find that the “hard pull” magically disappears after a month to 3 months…. I have done that trick on 4 comenity bank cards so far and all have gone away.
Peir 1 did a hard pull even though I filled all zeros on my SS# except for the last pull, so please be careful with doing that.
Did the hard pull from Pier 1 fall off? or is it still showing up? I made the same mistake.
I thank everyone for all the comments left on this site. The only credit I had back in March 2016 was a car loan. My credit score was under 600. I applied at my bank Chase and got the Freedom card, then Slate Card. I used the Shopping Cart Trick and received the Victoria Secret, Express, Limited, Loft, New York&Co, Sportsman Visa, Wayfair, Overstock, Simply Be, Eddie Bauer and Woman Within. They all gave me the pop-up and asked for the last four digits of my social. I also got approved for Capital One and Quicksilver Card. I then received pre-approval emails for HSN, and Ashley Stewart, where I shop frequently. This month (Sept) I received pre-approval letters in the mail for Chevron/Texaco charge card and Walmart charge cards, I accepted both online. My Credit Score is now 677. And Chase has pre-approved me for a Home Loan. I am a Single Mom that has been through alot of changes over the years and have put myself through LPN school to be a Nurse and finally seem to be moving ahead. So Thanks To Everyone for Sharing their story. I hope My Story will help someone as well. Good Luck All
how do you know what address they are using and name and off of which report? also, has anyone gotten ulta or dsw to work?
I also wonder what report they are soft-pulling from. Does anyone know the answer to that?
for me its been Equifax, Every time!
it will mainly work with store cards (not branded with Visa / Mastercard). I rec’d an offer for Ulta in the store, but declined – not necessary.
I have gotten VS (350)to work and boscovs but I didn’t proceed with boscovs I didn’t find any use but now I wish I would’ve because I can’t get any other pop up. I really want the overstock CC. Can anyone give me any tips to get it to work. I cleared cache and cookies and tried multiple emails and it’s still not working
I got VS and boscovs initially I declined boscovs but reconsidered when I tried to get the pop up it wouldn’t come back up so I used a different email address and it worked. I really want the overstock card but I haven’t had any luck.
Does it matter is you have your equifax credit report locked?
Overstock did not work, hard pull even…. Sept 2016
I tried quite a few cards and was denied but I just got my 7-10 day letter from JD Williams and when I called to verify my information, I was approved. Waiting for packet in the mail with credit limit.
Ugh! I can’t get any of them to work for me! I have done it over and over again on my desktop, my iPhone AND my iPad. I don’t know what I am doing wrong. It is so discouraging-to say the very least. I have cleared out my browsing history over and over again, tried it on Internet Explorer and on Chrome (incognito mode). Does anyone have any advice?
There are a couple of factors why it might not be working-Your credit score might not be where it needs be or when you are entering your information, it might not be identical to what’s on your credit report. For instance on your credit report, it could be reporting your address as- 123 Main St but you could be entering 123 Main Street, I think for the trick to work it has to be identical to what’s on your credit report, maybe you should get a copy to be sure… Hope this helps…
Thanks Bret. I pulled my reports this morning. It looks like my info is matching but who knows. I have been trying over and over again. Nothing has changed for me. I really appreciate the response though.
You are welcome. I’m glad you pulled a copy bc at least you know for sure that your info is correct. Did you try going to Victoria Secret? That’s usually the easiest one.. I remember when I first starting doing this, that is the first site I tried & it worked on the first try!! But if you tried everything else the only thing I can say is wait a couple of weeks & try again… Good luck!!
