How to Perform the Shopping Cart Trick
- Go online to the store's website for the card you want.
- Register for their website or loyalty program. You will want to provide your personal information. Providing your address is a must because it allows them to send promotions to your address.
- Add a couple of items to your shopping cart.
- Continue the check-out process until you reach the final page. If you have not received an offer, then you will have try again or try another website. Again, you do not have to purchase anything. The process of going to the final checkout page increases your chance of an offer to pop up.
- Accept the offer and complete the application.
Note: Be sure to enter the same information that is on your credit report when you're applying for the credit card. If they cannot verify your identity, then you will not be eligible for the card.
Benefits of the Shopping Cart Trick
- Bonuses - Different credit cards have different bonuses - some may be cash back while others may be related to the partnered store. Be sure to read the full details of the benefits!
- Helps Build Your Credit Score - If your credit score is bad, this trick will allow you to rebuild your credit. Because these cards aren't a hard pull against your credit, they will not be able to see any bankruptcies or items that negatively affect your credit. If a borrower can show that he or she can pay off money even with bad credit, then the lender will be more inclined to loan money to them.
- Able to Request a Higher Credit Limit - These types of credit cards typically have a lower credit limit around the $500 mark. After receiving your card, you can request for a higher limit for your spending needs.
Conclusion
If you are looking to increase your credit score or get more deals from stores, then the Shopping Cart Trick is the one trick for you. It's a fairly simple process to perform and a great way to earn some extra cash in your pocket. Just remember to follow the key qualifications in order for you to receive those great credit card offers.

I have read numerous articles on the Shopping Card trick, and have read a lot of the comments that followed. There is one question that I have not seen asked or addressed.
Here goes: If I went to a website, let’s say Ann Taylor, for example. I entered my info, whether it is through registering, or checking out as a guest. I did not get a pop-up (and I followed the correct steps, opt-in, no cookies, clear cache, clear browsing history etc), so since I didn’t get a pop-up, no preapproval.
So, if I want to go back a few days, weeks, etc. later, since I would already be registered from before, would I get a pop-up preapproval? I read some people go back at a later time and get approved.
What do you do (if anything) different the second time as opposed to the first try?
Also, how do you delete or cancel your registration on those websites?
When it happened to me I kept the accounts and checked out as a guest, when it popped up I had to sign in to get the approval…..
I had to use a different email.
Yes. This has happened with me with Wayfair. I thought that I might need to set up a new account under a different e-mail so I did. It took 5 months of trying weekly, but I finally got the pop up on the original account that I set up back in November 2016. I got the pop up in March 2017. Wayfair requires that you be logged in to an acct to continue checkout process so I didn’t have a choice to checkout as guest. Still working on getting Pier1. I have Brylane Home, Express, VS, Boscov’s, Sahalie, Overstock, and NY&Co. NY&Co and Boscov’s were the only ones where I was signed in as a guest. I think the process for some of these is unique to the company. For some, I got the pop-up the second I put my cursor into the cc payment field, and others, I didnt get it until I went to the order review page, or the step just before finalizing.
If I checkout as a guest, what happens if I enter all my credit card info and click, will that deduct money from my debit card…I have been afraid to click past the payment page after entering my credit card info for fear of it going through. Does anyone know what happens next?
I only do it if it says that I can still review my order. If it says submit or place order, I do not proceed. Also, you can use an old prepaid card – sometimes ill put in an old visa gift card with a 0 balance or my bluebird prepaid card which has no money on it – if im unsure about whether the debit would go through. It never has though.
Thank you so much I have been waiting for this answer that is such a good idea. I have been approved for almost all of the credit cards but for some reason Herbergers and Chadwick’s will not approve me.
Works good on Wayfair…….1500.00
Good for you! I couldn’t get it to work for Wayfair. Did the application anyway and it just asked for the last four social numbers but afterwards, it said my app was in review and I would hear from them in 7-10 business days. From my past experience, that means it’s a “no”. Oh well, I’ll try again in a month.
SCT works for Capital One stores too! I was just shopping on the Khol’s site and the pre-approval popped up right at the end of checkout. My credit is not great (576) so I was very suprised. CL was only $300 but it’s a start to start rebuilding my credit. I was also able to get Commenity Bank cards through SCT at Buckle, Ann Taylor, VS, Overstock, Brylane Home and NY&Co.
Is there some kind of technique to this, because I got approval from some stores but not others and they are all Comenity, I don’t get it.
It doesn’t work for everyone at all stores. I haven’t figured out what. I have tried several and had no luck. I will say that I kept trying VS and finally got a pop up on my cell phone.
Overstock – $4500 CL
HSN – $4000
Pottery Barn – $2500
All in same day, all SCT, all asked for full social, all were a soft pull.
I created (or logged in) to account prior to heading towards shopping cart.
This absolutely works. Love it!
Can you explain better ???
Overstock uses Synchrony bank……I got the pop-up and a HARD pull from Synchrony!
I got the pop up from Overstock a month ago. No hardpull and I just received my first bill. It’s Comenity.
I’m hoping for a soft pull but when I called OS the same day to change my email address the girl said I would have to call Synchrony Bank and she gave me their phone number…….I’m hoping she was wrong, but I don’t know why she would tell me that, will find out in a few days.
That’s odd, I have Overstock and its Comenity bank not Synchrony Bank. I got the card about 2 months ago.
Overstock MasterCard must be Synchrony and the store card must be Comenity. I have the store card and that is Comenity, it was a soft pull.
Hmmm … I got SP from Overstock (750 cl), but Walmart’s was Synchrony and HP
Received a pre approval via email for Ashley Stewart the app is asking for a full SS will this be a hard pull? Comenity seems to pull Equifax for me and I have it locked at this time.
I’ve been able to get it to work at Ann Taylor, NY&Co and Buckle. All three start with a $250 limit. I saw the pop up at JCrew but when I submitted my information it did not give me an instant approval. I only have two credit cards and my score is low (576) so you do not need to have perfect credit to get this to work.
I got the following cards using the trick…
Victoria Secret – $500 (can’t wear any of their stuff so I really got it to use at Bath and Body Works lol)
Ashley Stewart – $250
Overstock – $250
I couldn’t get the trick to work with Lane Bryant (after trying multiple times and was always declined, I waited a few months and tried again) and got approved for $300.
When you tried Lane Bryant the second time after waiting a few months, were you already registered from when you tried the first time? Did they have you info already on file where you just had to sign in using your password and email? I have asked this question on so many places but no one seems to answer it. Thanks
Barbra, I use to work for Lane Bryant years ago so I was already in their system. However, back then, my credit was very bad and I was always denied whenever I tried for the card. I was needing to order something for a friend’s wedding back in April of this year and since it had been about three months since I last applied, I decided to try again. I had also been working on my credit as well so that probably helped me. I applied directly and didn’t know about the shopping cart trick until I came across this page earlier this month. It was a hard pull I think with Transunion but it really didn’t affect my credit score but by 5 points so I wasn’t too bothered by that. I did get the SCT to work on Overstock, Simply Be, Ashley Stewart and Victoria’s Secret.
Thank You
You’re welcome!
ok this thread is the best, I have a question for you nice people. I got approved for $1000 using the S.C.T w/pottery barn but the asked for my full ssn, will that result in a hard pull or is still soft?
it will be a soft pull. mine was only soft via sct and i used my full social
A quick question…does the pop-up occur after you hit the payment option button or does it pop-up after you type all of your information in (right before you hit the payment option)?
