Style
Designed by local firm ForrestPerkins, the Ritz’s lobby pays homage to nearby Dallas Arts District with commissioned pieces from local artists. Other than the famous guests in the contemporary, marbled space, your eyes will be immediately drawn to the elaborate floral display at the very center. These intricate arrangements were updated weekly and never once have been duplicated.
Room
All 218 rooms and suites at the Ritz feature city skyline views and modern in-room technology, including flat-screen Sony HDTVs, built-in USB plugs, in-mirror bathroom televisions, customizable voicemail greetings and safes with outlets inside.
The 425-square-foot Deluxe King Room sported a classic, residential design. The linens and feather bed were divine, but the spacious bathroom stole the show. It is covered in marble and furnished with a soaking tub, separate shower, dual vanities and signature Asprey bath amenities.
The room rate included complimentary shoe shine and twice daily housekeeping. Unfortunately, high-speed WiFi was extra.
Facilities
When you’re done exploring the city, you will entered a world of relaxation at the five-star Ritz-Carlton Spa. The 12,000-square-foot sanctuary boasted 12 spacious treatment rooms with in-room showers, including two couple’s suites with soaking tubs, restorative healing waters, dry cedar saunas, eucalyptus steam rooms and a 24-hour fitness center. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a lot of spare time to make use of the hotel’s outdoor pool and terrace.
If you book a room or suite on the Club Level, you’ll have access to the hotel’s exclusive Club Lounge, with a dedicated concierge, complimentary high-speed WiFi and multiple culinary presentations throughout the day.
Food & Drink
Fearing’s Restaurant, by Dallas celebrity chef Dean Fearing, offers a Southwestern take on elevated American cuisine with a focus on regional products. The eatery had seven distinct settings. You can be seated in the Sendero Room, a glass dining pavilion with floor-to-ceiling windows that opened, causing hundreds of hanging Murano glass to twinkle with the breeze. We highly recommend the shrimp tacos smothered in barbecue sauce, the pan-browned halibut and the prime rib-eye mopped with molasses, beer and vinegar. Lastly, you can’t go wrong with Fearing’s legendary tortilla soup.
After dinner, we enjoyed a few Dean’s Margaritas and some live music at The Rattlesnake Bar, a buzzy place frequented by the locals.
Saturday Afternoon Tea was served in the Lobby Lounge, as well as complimentary guacamole and chips every evening at 6pm, which are freshly prepared by a professionally-trained “guacamologist.”
Service
Service at the Ritz was spectacular with all staff anticipating your needs, making your stay both seamless and thoughtless. The valets were quick and friendly, as was the check-in process. You can enjoy samples of guacamole and margaritas in the lobby. And when asking where the fitness center was, one of the staff not only walks you there, but also offered to help set up equipment and book a workout class.
Chauffeured Bentleys were also on offer. They’re a great way to roll up to nearby engagements in style.
Location
Ideally located in the lively Uptown area, The Ritz-Carlton is close to plenty of shops, restaurants and nightlife. The Arts District lies within a half-mile from the hotel, with the renowned Nasher Sculpture Garden and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Nearby, there’s the AT&T Performing Arts Center and Dallas Symphony. And you won’t want to miss out on the Sixth Floor Museum, dedicated to John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
Address: 2121 McKinney Avenue, Dallas.
