Over time American Express has been updating previous cards by introducing new benefits and increasing rates. Most recently, they announced changes made to the Business Platinum Card from American Express. The latest change that stands out is the new complimentary WeWork Membership.
These benefits are expected to raise the annual fee up to $595 – which presses the question, what is WeWork?
WeWork is a rapidly growing real estate company that provides flexible office space. They include amenities, hip decor and events to entrepreneurs and startup companies around the world. American Express and WeWork claim that this benefit is valued up to $2,700.

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express has a welcome offer of 120,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases with your Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership. What You Get
American Express Platinum Business Cardholders who enroll will receive:
- Access to workspace in over 22 countries and 300+ locations.
- Premium Amenities – including Printing, reliable WiFi, and an endless supply of micro-roasted coffee keep you up and running across time zones
- Invites to exclusive events.
- Refreshments, like coffee, tea, and fruit water.
This membership will last 1 year (365 days). So if you sign up on November 20, 2019, your membership will last until November 20, 2020.
Access Restrictions
After enrolling, you’ll be giving an access card to WeWork locations. FAQs state that hours last from 9 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday. Some have claimed to get access outside those hours using the access card.
Members will be allowed to bring in guests. It’s not clear as to how many or a limited number of times.
Cancelled Card
FAQs suggests that members who cancel their card may lose access to WeWork benefits/locations. Previous benefits from American Express are generally enforced (Priority Pass Lounge Access) so it’s quite possible you’ll lose your membership.
Conclusion
This newly added benefit seems quite enticing, but not much is known about WeWork. Our advice is to hold off on enrolling until more can be learned. If you’re worried about time, don’t worry you have until December 31, 2019 to enroll.
