Once you become a member, you’ll start as a Bronze SUNBIRD member. Then you can move up once your acquire a certain amount of miles or hit a certain number of flight within a 12-month period as follows:

To earn Royal Club miles without flying, you can earn through American Express Membership Rewards. Points convert to miles at a 2:1 ratio. You can earn with the following credit cards:
The Platinum Card® from American Express offers 80,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $8,000 on purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership. Redeeming Royal Club Miles
Once your collect enough miles, you can redeem the miles you have collected through your Royal Club membership in ways that make a difference to your flying experience.
- Purchase your ticket using miles. Miles can be redeemed for tickets directly with us or with any of their Oneworld partners.
- Upgrade to Crown Class. Redeem your miles for a free upgrade from Economy to Crown Class, seats are limited, so to ensure you get the upgrade you desire request the upgrade well in advance.
- Excess luggage allowance. Enjoy more freedom when packing for your next trip, or while shopping abroad by redeeming your miles for extra luggage allowance.
- Merchandise through the Royal Club Rewards Store.
- Charitable donations.
Royal Club Miles Expiration
Award Miles will not expire as long as the member’s membership account is active. However, if you don’t keep your account active by acquiring, redeeming or purchasing activity within 18 months, the account’s status will be changed to Inactive and all miles will expire.
