The Avianca Vida Visa® Card is currently offering 20,000 welcome bonus miles after the first purchase. That’s about $340 in value per our valuation. You can compare this bonus with other credit cards.
It is an airline rewards credit card with a $59 annual fee and a rewards program made for frequent Avianca fliers.
Although it isn’t widely known in the U.S., Avianca is recognized for serving plenty of popular destinations throughout the Americas. If you regularly travel to Latin American countries, or even European countries, this card may be worth a spot in your wallet.
Cardholders earn 2 LifeMiles per $1 spent on Avianca purchases and 1 LifeMile per $1 spent on all other purchases. However, use another card overseas, as the Avianca Vida Visa charges a foreign transaction fee.
The Avianca Vida Visa has some great benefits, like a nice discount on purchased miles, and no cap on the number of LifeMiles you can earn. You can book flights with your miles here.

Earning 20,000 Avianca Vida Bonus LifeMiles Offer
Take advantage of the Avianca Vida card’s 20,000 bonus LifeMiles promotion. It’s not the best bonus offered, but it’s decent considering the card’s $59 annual fee.
Plus, it’s really easy to get the bonus. All you have to do is make one purchase with your card. There’s no spend or time limit in order to qualify. However, if you ever need any ideas for other credit cards to reach their spending requirements, here are some:
Earning
Cardholders earn an unlimited 2 LifeMiles per $1 spent on Avianca airfare, vacation packages, and other travel items. You must go through Avianca’s call center, Avianca.com, or at Avianca ticket counters to earn these miles. Your bonus miles accumulate in addition to base miles earned by all LifeMiles members, including non-cardholders, on Avianca airfare purchases.
All other purchases earn an unlimited 1X LifeMile.
Like most branded travel rewards credit cards, the Vida Visa earns loyalty currency, called LifeMiles, faster on airfare and other travel purchases. You can even earn LifeMiles with about a dozen Star Alliance airline partners and a some other travel and non-travel merchants, see list below. Base LifeMiles earned is based on air miles traveled, dollars spent, or both, depending on the merchant they’re earned with.
There are no caps or restrictions on how many LifeMiles you can earn over the life of your account.
Redeeming Rewards
. On average, each Avianca LifeMile is worth $0.017. Generally, non-airfare redemptions will give you the worst redemption value.
You can use your Avianca LifeMiles for:
- Avianca or partner-operated flights
- Seat upgrades
- Extra baggage
- Avianca VIP lounge access
- Merchandise
- Hotel stays
- Car rentals
However, if you want to maximize the value of your rewards, redeem your LifeMiles to cover the cost of airfare with Avianca or within the Star Alliance. Star Alliance Members include:
Adria | Aegean | Air Canada |
Air China | Air India | Air New Zealand |
ANA | Asiana Airlines | Austrian Airlines |
Avianca | Brussels Airlines | Copa Airlines |
Croatia Airlines | EgyptAir | Ethiopian Airlines |
EVA Air | LOT Polish Airlines | Lufthansa |
SAS | Shenzhen Airlines | Singapore Airlines |
South African Airways | Swiss International Airways | Air Portugal |
Thai Airways International | Turkish Airlines |
Redemption requirements are set by region and are roughly the total trip length. They’re not tied to the ticket’s dollar amount. However, this is subject to change.
A round-trip economy flight within North America requires 25,000 LifeMiles. From North America to Brazil, a round-trip economy flight requires 60,000 miles. From North America to Central Asia, round-trip economy flight requires 85,000 miles. These redemption requirements are the same throughout the Star Alliance, regardless of your preferred airline.
You cannot redeem for an award flight until you’ve accumulated the number of LifeMiles required. However, you can buy additional LifeMiles to make up any you don’t have.
LifeMiles’ redemption values vary, depending on flight distance, fare class, and other factors. Nonetheless, they’re usually worth less than one cent apiece on short-haul flights and up to three cents apiece on long-haul flights.
Conclusion
The Avianca Vida Visa® Card is best suited for those who are familiar with LifeMiles. Otherwise, you may be better off with a general travel rewards credit card like the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. It comes with perks like the 15% discount on LifeMiles purchases and purchase and travel protections.
If you don’t usually fly to Latin America, you can get some good value out of your LifeMiles when you fly overseas on popular Star Alliance partners. It’s best to use this card specifically for Avianca flights within Latin America. Then, keep earning points until you can redeem for a trip on another Star Alliance airline. If you frequently travel on Avianca, consider the Avianca Vuela Visa card which earns higher rewards.
